The ketogenic diet is extremely low carbohydrate, moderate protein and high fat diet. Every person responds differently, so the amount of carbohydrates consumed can vary from 20g-50g (sometimes less; sometimes more), depending on each individual, in order to maintain a state of ketosis. Due to the diets restrictive nature, it is quite difficult for many people to follow; and, therefore, they lack the discipline to stay in ketosis long term.
