In Dry Needling, a sterile needle is inserted into a muscle trigger point. Trigger points are not acupuncture points but areas of increased muscle spasm and tension. Inserting the needle causes a stretch reflex reaction and allows the muscle to relax.
Muscles that have been tight for a period of time often “forget” how to relax and stay under tension, causing pain. Dry Needling can be the first step in breaking the pain cycle and helping you regain normal movement.
