About Us

1985:
Our roots

Sherwood Park Sports Physiotherapy was founded in 1985 by Doug and Teresa Gilroy with a vision to have a multidisciplinary Sports Medicine Centre to treat athletic injuries in Sherwood Park.

They believed that everyone deserves to live their best, healthy lives and will do whatever is necessary to help people get back to the sports & activities they love.

The “team” consisted of one physiotherapist and operated out of an office building.

2000:
A New Opportunity

At the turn of the millenium, a new opportunity presented itself to move into a brand new recreation complex in Sherwood Park. SPSP seized the opportunity to move into the new recreation complex serving Strathcona County.

Millennium Place afforded us the opportunity to expand to include a team of fitness & rehab specialists in a larger space.

2015:
The Bridge

Equipped with ambition that exceeded our space in Millennium Place. the SPSP rehab team created the first of its kind, The Bridge, a cutting-edge treatment and training facility dedicated to injury rehabilitation, movement quality and performance training in Sherwood park.

As a multidisciplinary sports rehabilitation and performance training centre, The Bridge brought treatment and training experts together to “bridge the gap” from rehab to performance.

2018:
New territory

An opportunity to pair with SPARK Sport Conditioning, a high performance gym in South Edmonton meant opening a second new clinic in the span of four years.

We brought our interdisciplinary approach to health care and performance training to YEG’s south side in 2018.

2021:
Expansion down south

When a physio left us in late 2019 to move his young family back to his home town of Lethbridge, he noticed a gap in the market for a modern clinic with the necessary equipment and space to get Southern Albertans back to the activities they love after injury.

Niko Saler and the rest of the team at The Bridge – Lethbridge opened their doors in 2021 to bring our approach to rehab and performance training to Lethbridge’s active population and athletes.
